Episode 1 The Italian Garden Project
Welcome to The Herbal Lens.
For this first episode back, I’m honored to share a conversation with Mary Menniti, the founder and curator of The Italian Garden Project, a story rooted in heritage gardening, cultural memory, and the ways our ancestors’ hands still shape the soil beneath our own.
Each episode, we’ll explore the medicine of plants, places, and people, through story, research, and lived experience. You’ll hear from herbalists, farmers, clinicians, and wisdom keepers, and sometimes, just me, reflecting on the messy beauty of becoming.
This first episode back is especially meaningful to me. My family’s roots trace to Baselice, a small village in southern Italy, at the crossroads of Campania, Molise, and Abruzzo; a landscape shaped by migration, resilience, and deeply held agricultural traditions. Like many of us, I carry fragments of those stories through food, gardening, and an enduring pull toward the land.
So, pour a cup of tea. Step into the garden with me. Let’s look closer together.
